A review of the marketing literature in both the traditional (offline) and new era (online) environments was undertaken to compare and contrast marketings role in both types of organisation. Insights derived from this review formed the basis for a series of in-depth interviews with leading marketing professionals in Ireland. The paper draws conclusions regarding the overall effect of the Internet on marketing. In particular it notes that, while marketing has evolved into an all-encompassing role in the organisation, the marketer remains the focal actor. The paper looks to a future with two distinct kinds of marketer and highlights the importance of retaining the traditional commitments of marketing practice. The Internet is a significant global medium for communications, content and commerce. It is a powerful tool for building relationships with all of a companys communication targets. It is cheap, immediate and repeatable. With appropriate technology it can be personalised and is measurable. Building one-to-one relationships with customers online provides marketers with the ability to cut through the clutter that is characteristic of traditional marketing activities such as TV/radio and newspaper advertising, PR and outdoor, ambient media.
The following paper represents the current state of research into the use and usage of the Internet for marketing purposes by small medium sized enterprises (SMEs). The paper discusses how the research was established, its design and development, and sets out the operational parameters addressed. It also identifies the factors that SMEs view as critical to the success or otherwise of their development of a web presence. * What is the main driver for an SME to develop a web site * What are the main, identifiable marketing benefits and drawbacks of a Web presence for an SME

Health is a measure of quality of life that is difficult to define and measure. In the 1940s, the World Health Organization (WHO) defined health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. At the first International Conference on Health Promotion in Ottawa, Canada (1986), the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion built on the WHOs concept and further defined health as a resource for everyday life. a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capabilities. Good health enables one to function independently within a changing environment.

Pest controllers locate, identify, repel, and destroy pests. They use their knowledge of pests habits, along with an arsenal of pest management techniques-applying chemicals, setting traps, operating equipment, and even modifying building structures-to alleviate pest problems. The best known method of pest control is pesticide application. Pest controllers apply two different types of pesticides: common use and restricted use. Common use pesticides are the most widely used and are readily available; in diluted concentrations, they are available to the public. Restricted use pesticides are available only to professionals for the most severe infestations. Their application is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) because of their potential harm to pest controllers, customers, and the environment.
Modern pest control is often termed IPM–which can be defined as a coordination of several management functions to: * Resolve these infestations with short-term control(s). * Reduce or eliminate the causes of infestation with long-term resolutions.

Acupuncture is considered a form of treatment or therapy. However, acupuncture practitioners believe that acupuncture may be most successful when it is applied as an early intervention for symptoms or conditions. It may be that acupuncture can prevent some symptoms and conditions from becoming worse or chronic. To date, two studies have shown a positive effect in preventing breech births among pregnant women. More research is needed to define the preventive value of acupuncture.
In addition to its efficacy in relieving pain and other chronic conditions, acupuncture has gained in popularity because of several additional advantages:
It lacks the side effects associated with many medications and surgical treatments in Western medicine.
It is highly cost-effective; it may be used early in the course of a disease, potentially saving the patient the cost of hospitalizations, laboratory tests, and high-priced drugs.
It can easily be combined with other forms of therapy, including psychotherapy.
It is noninvasive.
It carries relatively few risks.
Electroacupuncture. In this form of acupuncture, the traditional acupuncture points are stimulated by an electronic device instead of a needle.
Japanese meridian acupuncture. Japanese acupuncture uses thinner, smaller needles, and focuses on the meridians rather than on specific points along their course.
Korean hand acupuncture. Traditional Korean medicine regards the hand as a map of the entire body, such that any part of the body can be treated by stimulating the corresponding point on the hand.
Western medical acupuncture. Western physicians trained in this style of acupuncture insert needles into so-called trigger points in sore muscles, as well as into the traditional points used in Chinese medicine.
Ear acupuncture. This technique regards the ear as having acupuncture points that correspond to other parts of the body. Ear acupuncture is often used to treat substance abuse and chronic pain syndromes.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — In a move to better match domestic manufacturing capacity to demand, Hooker Furniture (Nasdaq:HOFT) announced today that it plans to close its Pleasant Garden, N.C. plant by October 2005. The 300,000 square foot plant, one of three wood furniture manufacturing facilities operated by Hooker in Virginia and North Carolina, employs approximately 280 employees, representing about 16% of the Companys total workforce, and produces some of the Companys home entertainment and home office furniture. The products currently manufactured in Pleasant Garden will be shifted to Hookers wood furniture plants in Martinsville and Roanoke, Va. With the closure of the Pleasant Garden facility, Hooker will operate 2.8 million square feet of factory and distribution space, including two wood furniture production plants, three upholstered furniture plants, two supply plants, a distribution center and several warehouses, all located in Virginia and North Carolina. The Company also utilizes a 210,000 square foot distribution center and warehouse in China that is owned and operated by two of the Companys vendors.
These great estates and surrounding landscapes were designed by notable architects, and some of the largest properties were manicured by as many as three dozen gardeners. One such house, in the shingle style, is Weatherend in Rockport, built for the John Gribbel family about 1900. In 1913 a Norwegian-born landscape architect named Hans Heistad (d. 1945), the son of a shipbuilder, was hired by Gribbel to improve the grounds around Weatherend. He divided the land around the house into garden rooms delineated by masonry walls and built tables, chairs, and benches to furnish these open-air rooms.About 1905 Heistad had been hired by Olmsted Brothers of Brookline, Massachusetts, founded by Frederick Law Olmsted (1822-1903). In 1910 he was introduced to Maine while employed by the firm at Chatwold, the Joseph Pulitzer estate in Bar Harbor. He worked on many other Maine estates as well and finally moved permanently to the coast of Maine in 1913.In 1983 the late William Fisher, who grew up summering at Weatherend, was inspired to form a company he named Wcatherend[R] Estate Furniture in Rockland to design and manufacture garden furniture inspired by Heistads pieces. He hired ship-wrights to create an introductory group of seven reproductions. Today the firm has expanded its offerings to more than sixty products, some of which are interpretations based more loosely on Heistads pieces.
HERES your chance to win a fantastic collection of garden furniture worth nearly pounds 3,000. Tomorrows bank holiday is the perfect time to get into the garden and relax in the sunshine. * First Navy Cruiser to Begin Full Modernization. Ticonderoga-class cruiser USS Bunker Hill (CG 52) recently became the first guided-missile cruiser to begin combined hull, mechanical and electrical (HME) and combat systems upgrades as part of the U.S. Navys Guided Missile Cruiser/Guided Missile Destroyer Modernization Program. Twenty-two Ticonderoga -class cruisers and 62 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers will undergo a significant modernization to ensure these warships reach their projected 35-year service life, the Navy said. These ships will be fitted with stateof-the-art combat systems, HME and quality-of-life upgrades that will dramatically improve all areas of the ships functionality, officials continued. “Bunker Hill pulled into dry dock at BAE Systems [London, England] in San Diego [California] early in the morning of February 13,” said Evan Littig, senior surface combatant class manager for Team Ships. “The ship will get new software, systems and equipment that will modernize the ships combat capabilities, as well as improve crew working and living conditions.” Bunker Hill is scheduled to be in the shipyard for approximately one year. * U.S. Department of Transportation to Recycle Three More Ships. The U.S. Department of Transportations Maritime Administration has signed contracts totaling $1,136,106 for the recycling of three obsolete ships from its reserve fleets. All three ships will be recycled at the Esco Marine facility in Brownsville, Texas. Two of the ships, Cape Catoche and Cape Carthage, are in the James River Reserve Fleet site at Fort Eustis in Virginia. When they depart the James River site for recycling, they will be the 68th and 69th ships to do so since January 2001. The third ship, Del Viento, is in the Beaumont Reserve Fleet in Texas. “Each time we move an obsolete ship out, we make an important contribution to maintaining the local ecosystem,” said Maritime Administrator Sean T. Connaughton. The Cape Carthage and Cape Catoche are both break-bulk freighters, built at the Avondale shipyard in Alabama in 1963. The Del Viento, also a break-bulk freighter, was built at the lngalls Shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi, in 1968. The Maritime Administration keeps ships in three National Defense Reserve Fleet sites to support Armed Forces movements and to respond to national emergencies. * Crew Saves Fishing Vessel, Coast Guard Provides Escort to Dutch Harbor. Responding to a mayday call in late February, 136 miles northeast of Dutch Harbor, Alaska, U.S. Coast Guard cutter Alex Haley arrived on the scene as crew members from the fishing vessel Pacific Glacier were battling flames. After working through the night, the fire was reportedly contained at approximately 5 a.m. the next morning. “This appears to be an excellent fire response where the right training, proper equipment and never-give-up attitude came together with some good weather to keep this accident from becoming a tragedy,” said Kenneth Lawrenson, commercial fishing vessel safety coordinator for the 17th Coast Guard District. A Coast Guard H-65 Dolphin helicopter deployed aboard the Alex Haley, a Coast Guard H-60 Jayhawk helicopter deployed in St. Paul, Alaska, and a C-130 from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak also responded. An investigation of the incident is being conducted by Coast Guard sector Anchorage. “The Coast Guard wants to insure that other fishing and processing vessels are able to learn lessons from this accident and keep themselves safe,” said Lawrenson.

United States Receives First Russian Oil Shipment. The United States has taken delivery of its first shipment of Russian oil. The shipment arrived in Houston, Texas, early last month. This delivery is the first of five or six that will be sent to the United States this year. This shipment has been purchased by Exxon Mobil Corp. and another buyer, who has yet to be identified. Yukos, the Russian company that is supplying the oil, announced back in May that it would send its first tankers to the United States sometime this summer. That announcement followed a summit meeting in Moscow, at which United States President Bush and Russian President Putin signed an energy cooperation statement. Russia currently supplies a tiny percentage of U.S. imports. Oil being its chief export. High oil prices drove Russias economic growth in 2000 and 2001 and lifted Yukos and other Russian oil companies. In Memoriam. Breast-Enlargement.net , a full-featured website based
in San Jose, California offering information and news about the most
commonly performed plastic surgery in the United States, has gone live,
providing internet users with a non-threatening source for articles and news about the procedure
itself, as well as the process of choosing to undergo this surgery.
“Over twenty thousand women undergo breast enhancement surgery every year,”
says CEO Julie Anne Smith. “This plastic surgery has come out of the closet and become
part of normal dinner table conversation. Its not just for women who want
a self esteem boost, but also for women who have had mastectomies, or lost
significant amounts of weight, and want to reclaim their sense of self. By
providing information in a non-threatening, non-judgmental format, were
helping women considering this surgery go into their consultation
appointments knowing what to expect.”
Knowing what not to expect is also on the menu. The site also cautions that
not all women are good breast
enlargement candidates, citing allergies to silicone as a possible
contraindication. As well, news files offer up-to-date information on
studies of post-surgical results from around the country, and share new
trends in cosmetic surgery, with items like “Same-Day Breast Reconstruction
Improves Self Esteem,” which suggests that cancer patients have a plastic
surgeon present during their mastectomy consultations.

Landscape Construction by David Sauter, Delmar Publishers, 2000, 384 pp., Paperbound. $64.95 This textbook is organized into nine sections to reflect the logical steps in the landscape construction process. The first section provides a good introduction to preconstruction issues. This section contains eight chapters with topics that include an overview of the construction process, legal and safety issues, reading and interpreting landscape construction documents, basic construction math, estimating project costs, and basic construction skills and techniques. Section two addresses the construction site preparation process in two chapters: preserving existing site elements (i.e., protecting environmentally sensitive areas in the landscape during constructing) and removing unwanted site elements (i.e., removal of unwanted plant material to make room for new elements in the landscape).
Landscape ecology and modern art were born from similar desires: to accurately describe the richness and beauty we all perceive; to paint or model the configuration, the array of lines and patches of colors and textures, the surprising events, and the overall evenness or fragmentation of the canvas or watershed as a whole. There are, for instance, hard edge paintings like those of Frank Stella and Piet Mondrian, and hard edge landscapes such as an array of large boulders scattered in a meadow or a ski resort condominium complex butting up on an old-growth forest; and soft edge paintings, like Mark Rothkos, and soft edge landscapes like the mosaicked transitions among freshwater, estuary, and saltwater marshes. Both disciplines love contemplating the contrasts between edges and patches. Parallels go much farther. Henri Matisse (in his cutout phase), Gustav Klimt, and Paul Klee experimented. tirelessly with configurations of patches of color: different sizes, the shape of each patch, the orientation of floating patches with the canvass straight edges and with other patches inside the artworks boundaries. Landscape ecologists similarly ponder patches such as beaver ponds in a watershed or, forest groves dotted among evenly textured farmlands. The right configuration can bring harmony to either canvas or landscape. To conservation biologists, for instance, the size and shape of a patch of forest may mean the difference between protection of a rare warblers home or nest parasitism by cowbirds. Informed intuition serves both painters and naturalists well. The boundaries of the canvas have always bothered painters. One solution was the heavy gold frame. But modern artists rebelled against this over-defining box. They encouraged museums and galleries to paint their walls white and to use,baby-spot lighting. Then, they played with the canvass boundary by painting its edge as white as the Wall. White-on-white can meld the canvas into the greater, art world architecture. Ecologists rarely find heavily framed environments (except for the cherished discovery of isolated islands and caves, where learning about life is so much easier without all those foreign intrusions). For a long time, the desire for simplicity has led ecologists to build a mental equivalent of heavy frames. They lay out a rectangular metric grid, study everything inside it, and ignore or downplay all outside influences. Contemporary landscape ecology, however, has in part rebelled. An edge for one creature may not mean much to another.
NEW LANDSCAPE DESIGN By Robert Holden. London: Laurence King, 2003. [pounds sterling]35. Age commonly hardens the arteries but Holdens are in supple shape–as this survey of the best of recent international landscape design happily demonstrates. For people grimly hanging on to the simplistic flower-orientated English Garden tradition so popular with the current rash of television presenters and for Landscape Institute (LI) neo-vernacularists, Holden is dangerously catholic. He is not wedded to the invariability of planting, likes the idea of diversity, is happy with landscape jokes, he deals impartially with formalism and informalism. He has a (rather forlorn) hope that landscape designers might have developed some kind of underlying theory, is comfortable about non-LI people designing landscape and is passionate and inquisitive about the totality of landscape design.

Identifying Public Education Problems and Needs
IFAC REQUESTS COMMENTS ON INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION STANDARDS FOR PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTANTS The overall goal of the proposed standards is to produce competent professional accountants. “The global profession is moving steadily towards a common base of standards in accounting, auditing, public sector accounting, and ethics, and is `raising the bar in the quality and consistent application of procedures around the world. The acceptance of the need to harmonise technical and practice standards globally has never been more pronounced,” states Warren Allen, chairman of IFACs Education Committee. “However, the global profession will not properly achieve this higher application of standards without a set of robust and codified education standards. Education must be the starting point. Without robustness in education, the achievement of higher compliance with technical and practice standards will flounder.” For this reason, IFACs Education Committee has worked aggressively on the development of the following exposure drafts: Introduction to International Education Standards for Professional Accountants provides background information about the purpose, scope and development of the International Education Standards for Professional Accountants.
IFAC EDUCATION COMMITTEE PUBLISHES FIRST INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION STANDARDS The standards are designed to be of assistance primarily to IFAC member bodies, which are generally responsible for either establishing or implementing education standards and requirements at the national level. The standards provide an important framework for all those interested in ensuring the high quality performance of professional accountants, including statutory and regulatory authorities involved with accounting education. Their release comes at a time when professional accountants are challenged to know and learn more every day. The new standards will assist those responsible for accounting education in helping professional accountants to develop the skills and strategies for lifelong learning so they can continually meet the expectations of the communities they serve. The following standards were approved in October 2003:

Air Travelers Tech Perspective If you count yourself among the ranks that racks up more frequent flyer miles than you know what to do with, chances are youre anxiously waiting for the day that reasonably priced, always-on Internet connectivity becomes a reality — both on the ground and in the air. Weve asked a leading expert on travel and air transport to help us provide perspective on the present and future outlook for airport and in-flight technology. Here are highlights of our conversation with Aram Gesar, Editor of AirGuide Magazine and AirGuideOnline. Unless business takes you to small markets or youre a member of an airline airport club, youre probably still in search of Wi-Fi nirvana. Large airports have been slow to establish wireless networks because of their size, but smaller airports are offering free Wi-Fi to attract business travelers, says Aram Gesar. Check out Wififreespot.com for a list of all the airports offering free wireless access. At the larger airports there are often a variety day pass and one-time use options available ranging from $5 to $15. Aram suggests Wi-fihotspotlist.com to locate hotspots in major metro areas. Looking to the future, Gesar says, we can expect to see technology in airports to mirror what frequent flyers use at the office and home, but this will be a slow evolution based on customer feedback and demand.
IN THIS 1928 ACCOUNT, THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO CROSS THE COUNTRY IN FORDS, FOKKERS, AND TRAINS BY ARTHUR PHILLIPS In this story however I shall attempt to set forth what happens when air transport operators are faced with bad weather - this particular weather being some of the worst encountered for many years in the Southwest. The mountain and desert regions of that ordinarily arid expanse were assaulted by nearly a week of torrential rains, falling to the accompaniment of howling winds and great crashes of thunder. During these stormy days, bridges were washed out and highways flooded, halting motor traffic. The Santa Fe Railroad suffered a serious wash-out on its main line, and had to reroute its trains over the Southern Pacific tracks which for many miles were under water. Crack limiteds were running as much as 30-hrs late. Telephone and telegraphic communication was seriously impaired. This, of course, was a most unusual situation but, nevertheless, it existed. You have seen how motor and rail traffic was obstructed; while the airplanes - but thats getting ahead of the story.

RISK PROBLEMS/SOLUTIONS Our fictitious business, Riverside Hardware Store, Inc. (RHS), owned several vehicles, including all of the business owners personal vehicles. Besides the personal cars, RHS also owned several pickup trucks. The owners insurance company wrote the coverage using the most restrictive covered auto description that was available. The restrictive coverage is shown on the Business Auto Policys declaration page as “specified autos only.” There was no premium difference between using the broadest description of covered autos and the most restrictive definitions of covered autos. Activating “any auto” is accomplished by putting the appropriate symbol on the declarations page.
Many of the trucks you see on the roads today are insured on one of three commercial auto insurance contracts: the truckers form, the motor carrier form or the business auto form. The truckers form is used for firms hauling only goods owned by others. The motor carrier form insures firms hauling both their own goods and the goods of others. The business auto form is used to cover firms hauling only goods that they own. The Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO), promulgates all three contracts. We will discuss the exclusions under the business auto policy and how to provide coverage for the excluded risks. To do so, we will consider several examples. In a fictitious example, MBF Corp.s (MBF) annual planning conference was going to be held at a mountain lodge. Conference attendees from all over the country would need to fly into a nearby town, rent four-wheel drive vehicles and drive about 20 miles to the lodge. The last five miles of the route required four-wheel drive vehicles because there was no pavement, only a trail created by vehicles driving over the mountain terrain. In spots, this trail was steep and in other places it was steeply slanted to one side or the other.

Hypnotherapy UK
August 19th, 2008
Hypnosis is widely used and accepted as an adjunct to treatment for pain control, habit disorders, symptom reduction, and many medical problems. Although in the past the application and effectiveness of hypnosis have been questioned by the medical community, the clinical disciplines that use hypnotherapy have grown to include the medical specialties, psychiatry, psychology, and social work. In the last 20 years over 100 review articles have been published by a diverse membership in both the American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis and the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, which are the respective journals of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and the Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis. The International Society of Hypnosis is composed of individual members from more than 20 national constituent societies. The use of hypnosis is widespread in various areas of clinical medicine, and family physicians are in an ideal position to address questions about the indications, misconceptions, and contraindications for the use of hypnosis. The physicians understanding of the history, theory, and clinical application can help guide the patient to this alternate therapeutic modality. Education in basic and advanced hypnosis can also enhance the family physicians armamentarium in diagnosing and treating many common ailments.
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is common, with each UK GP seeing an average of about eight patients every week. It is unpleasant for sufferers, negatively affects quality of life, and is expensive for health services. A large proportion of patients do not do well with conventional therapy, and many seek unconventional alternatives. One of these is a form of hypnotherapy known as gut-directed hypnotherapy. It is based on relaxation to try to normalise gut function. Because there are claims that it works, some purchasers are tempted to provide a service. A systematic review of trials [1] suggests a large degree of caution is warranted. Authors sought studies, of any design, in nine electronic databases, and even contacted authors for information about any further studies.

From Bolivia (where Bechtel claimed rainwater as their property) to Nazi Germany (where IBM and Coke found ingenious ways to continue business as usual) the film ranges over numerous case studies that leave little doubt about the brutal amorality of the corporate world. There are interviews with not only the usual suspects–Michael Moore, Vandana Shiva, Noam Chomsky and Naomi Klein–but also a variety of characters from the corporate world, many of whom may now regret having been interviewed. Free-market guru Milton Friedman is there, as is the thoughtful CEO of Interface Carpet, Ray Anderson–that rarest of birds, a genuine corporate reformer. At two-and-a-half hours long The Corporation could have stood a tighter edit. But corporate wrongdoing provides such a rich vein that it must have proved too difficult to leave much on the cutting-room floor.
S CORPORATIONIn Choosing a Legal Structure for Your Business , Stuart Handmaker explains that Essentially, there isnt any difference between a C corporation and an S corporation. Each of them is a corporation, and each one has the same characteristics, shareholders, directors, officers, records, minute books, problems, and the like. The only real difference is that the S corporation has filed a special form with the Internal Revenue Service stating that it wants to be an S corporation. What makes the S corporation different from the C corporation, then, is that it has special status in the eyes of the IRS. In short, the S corporation is viewed as a partnership or sole proprietorship for taxation purposes. This means that the corporation itself is not taxed, as C corporations are; rather the S corporations profits are passed on to its shareholders, who pay income tax on that money. In nearly all other respects, though, the S corporation is essentially the same as the C corporation. Most importantly, S corporations receive the benefit of limited liability that goes along with being a corporation. The combined benefits of limited liability (the lack of which is the main drawback of partnerships or sole proprietorships) and avoidance of double taxation (the main drawback of C corporations) makes the S corporation the most popular legal structure amongst small business owners.

Sound is usually the last thing we think about when watching TV or a movie. We probably dont think that much about it when were listening to the radio either, but the sounds coming through on a TV or radio broadcast have many elements that either reinforce or replace the need for visuals. Music, voiceovers, and Foley are all mixed together to create a unique feel. “Put the same cup of coffee there with some romantic music and suddenly its oh someones made someone a coffee, isnt that nice. Its evocative but so subtle.

A fairly new set of trading and diagnostic tools in the form of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) are now available to the forex trader. ETFs are becoming an important asset category and provide investors and traders wirh new opportunities to participate in targeted markets. For the forex trader, ETFs can be used to derive supportive information about the direction of currencies. Many ETFs also offer options providing even more potential for shaping trades. ETFs that are related to currency trading include dollar sentiment ETFs, ETFs on economic sectors (housing, real estate, etc.), ETFs tracking currency pairs and ETFs on commodities. All of these categories can help the forex trader in deciding direction, especially ETFs that track dollar sentiment. The forex trader can use the Powershares DB U.S. Dollar Index Bullish Fund (UUP) to detect a shift in the dollar sentiment. UUP employs a bullish dollar strategy. The ETF is long the dollar against several currencies including the euro, yen, British pound, Canadian dollar, Swedish krona and Swiss franc. Obviously this has not been a profitable fund recently, but this ETF can indicate the mood of the market. Changes in its price will alert the forex trader when there is a shift in dollar sentiment. In contrast the Powershares U.S. Dollar Index Bearish Fund (UDN) is an ETF with a bearish strategy. An effective way to use these ETFs is not necessarily to trade them, but rather to evaluate their relative performance. UUP and UDN are a good pair to look at because they are nearly perfectly negatively correlated at -0.96 (see “Dueling dollars”). Comparing these two sides of the coin on U.S. dollar sentiment is an effective way of deriving further insights.

infrared sauna room

by QCA Spas Features: patented sauna features Thera Heat system, which maintains the infrared heat produced by Theramitters at the 9.4 micron range, the maximum absorbed by the human body to boost healing; heats body through conversion without super heating the air inside the sauna, per maker [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED]
Q After working out, I love to relax in the sauna or steam room, but I heard they can be bad for the skin. Is this true? But if you have normal skin, limited exposure (no more than 15 minutes at a time) isnt harmful and actually can be beneficial to the skin, Luftman says. Aside from giving you a relaxed feeling, “it dilates blood vessels, increasing blood flow to the skin, so you get a rosy glow,” she explains. Moist or dry heat can also help those with cystic acne on the face and body. “Heat tends to help soften the cysts,” she adds. To ensure that the steam or sauna session isnt harmful to your skin, follow these tips: * Shower first. Yeast on the body grows quickly when skin becomes warm, oily and sweaty (such as after exercise). Normal cleansing typically prevents overgrowth, but if you go directly into a hot environment like a sauna or steam room where you continue sweating, theres a greater chance of developing a condition called tinea versicolor, says Luftman. This looks like white or brown thin scaly patches that may itch, particularly when you sweat. (Consult your dermatologist if you think you have these symptoms; they can be treated with over-the-counter or prescription antifungal creams or sprays.)

Sir: “Baby on board” signs posted by self-congratulatory proud parents (as noted by your correspondents) are bad enough, but what about “Caution: show dogs in transit”? For inspiration, dig out some old soft-rock compilation albums (the ones called things like “Precious Metal” or “Leather and Lace”), squeeze into some customised leather trousers, slash the arms off a perfectly good black T-shirt, apply copious amounts of kohl and then follow these instructions. One: take a chunk of well-highlighted fringe and backcomb furiously (rock chicks arent scared of split ends). Two: spray liberally with industrial- strength Elnett. Repeat the process. Three: pull the rest of your hair into a ponytail, fasten the quiff in place with a couple of Kirbigrips and pull out a few strands to ensure the wanton woman effect. There are numerous pitfalls to be avoided. Most importantly, make sure your quiff isnt too sleek - Mark Lamarr connotations make any flirtation with Brylcreem a foregone fashion faux pas (even he saw the light and shaved his off). Youll also need to avoid the 1980s quiff, which was steeled with enough lumpy gel to ensure even the briskest wind wouldnt disturb its vertiginous glory. Favoured by pop stars with regal pretensions (King, Prince), and those with more humble beginnings (Morrissey, the Stray Cats), the quiff reigned supreme until the baseball cap put a downer on all that backcombing. Still, two decades as a style pariah is enough - its time to make friends with your comb again.
Ever since Banana Republic went yuppie-chic on us, there hasnt been a good quality “photographers vest” to hide a concealed handgun. Even at that, the once-ubiquitous Republic vest was really just a stylish covering garment to conceal a hip holstered handgun; it was not a concealment garment per se. Indeed, there are a pair of bellowed pockets on the right front, each designed to a 30-round AR15 mag. I could easily fit two 30-rounders in each, bringing my load-out to 120 rounds of .556. From there we go to the left front bellows pocket which features three elastic tie-down straps to hold three high cap magazines. Lets say Im a Glock man and I like 9mm. Monday May 5, 2003 will go down in history as a day to remember in employment law. It was the day the long-debated amendments to the Health Safety in Employment Act finally came into effect. Why is this new legislation so important? The term “workplace stress” took on a whole new significance, with new obligations for employers, and potentially serious financial consequences for those who ignore them. Workplace stress is no longer simply a sad fact of life. It is now an officially recognised and legislated “workplace hazard”, with the amendments extending the definitions of “harm” and “hazard” to include physical and mental harm caused by work-related stress. A cursory reading of the new legislation might be enough to instantly treble employers workplace stress, but a deeper understanding goes some way to restoring mental equilibrium. The Occupational Safety and Health booklet, Healthy work, Managing Stress in the Workplace, tells employers that “there is only a requirement to manage work stressors or the individuals stressed situation where you can be reasonably expected to know about the stress. Even then the obligation is only to do what is reasonably practicable in the circumstances.”

Radio continues to be an inexpensive way for dealers and suppliers to reach their increasingly mobile customers Last year, the Minnesota-Dakota Hardware Association used $130,000 in co-op funds provided by five companies — Ace Hardware, United Hardware Distributors, TruServ, Briggs Stratton and 3M — for a five-month-long radio campaign extolling the virtues of the independent dealer over its warehouse competitors. Radio, which traces its roots back to the 1870s when it served as a point-to-point wireless telegraph, has survived several technology revolutions and continues to provide a reliable venue for dealers promotional efforts. Its relatively low cost and access to people while they are mobile are making radio a preferred and efficient medium for more companies. At least one study has even found that online dealers, with their cutting-edge approach to marketing and selling, are using radio ambitiously to get their messages out to shoppers.
Credit Card Debt
August 12th, 2008
Commenting on the tragedy, Consumer Credit Counselling Service chairman, Malcolm Hurlston said: “In the past week, we have counselled one client with 39 cards and another with 37, so although 19 may be extreme, it is by no means exceptional. “Rather than focussing on the number of cards, however, we would like to see creditors paying more attention to how the customer is dealing with the debt. Any customer paying no more than the minimum amount each month on a number of cards is already over-indebted, with debts about to spiral out of control. “Minimum payment information needs to be shared among creditors so they can make better decisions.”
MOST READERS of Malaysian Business are not poor. One of the hallmarks of the well-heeled in our society is having current issues of this magazine adorning the racks of their offices and the coffee tables of their homes. So, why am I writing here about defeating credit card debt? Ill tell you: Ive learnt over the years that quite a few individuals who earn hefty salaries or business profits tend to overlook gradually accumulating credit card balances on the personal front. This situation usually arises out of ignorance or distraction:
SAVING money on your credit-card bill can be as simple as switching to a new card company. It is not just a question of playing the field for the lowest interest rate or the lowest annual fee. Some card issuers will trim your overall level of debt if you transfer your credit card business to them, even if you are still in the interest-free period and not yet paying any interest on that debt. Midland Bank also offers a 5 per cent rebate on a balance transferred from a rival credit-card company. But this rebate is only available to people who are already paying interest on at least some of the transferred debt. If you are simply transferring a balance that has not yet attracted interest, there is no rebate. The maximum saving in moving to a Midland Access or Visa card is pounds 100. The Bank of Scotland runs a similar scheme for new customers who consolidate their credit and storecard debt on to one of its cards. A sliding scale offers a maximum saving of pounds 60, for debt transfers of pounds l,250 or more.
Cheap Hoodia
August 12th, 2008
DUBLIN, Calif. — Hoodia Products International Inc. (Pink Sheets: HDIA) today released a letter to the shareholders from Jacob V.O. Mullins, CEO of Hoodia Products International Inc. In the absence of such appetite suppression products such as ephedrine, the weight loss dietary supplement market is open and ready for a new solution. Hoodia gordonii, the cactus-like plant from the southern African deserts, offers such a solution. Having been traditionally used for centuries as an effective appetite suppressant, Hoodia has now entered the western market by storm, being mentioned on national television talk shows such as The Today Show, Oprah and 60 Minutes.
The Hoodia plant grows in the Kalahari desert region of Southern Africa, including Namibia, Angola, and Botswana. (1-2) History records that the San people of the Kalahari desert used the Hoodia plant to reduce hunger and thirst when they traveled across the desert. (25) This nomadic, ancient group of people was often deprived of food on long hunting expeditions in the desert, and famine was common. (1-3,25,26) In this Part I, of a two-part article, general background information on Hoodia gordonii is reviewed, with a focus on its botanical and biological characteristics.

LONDONS famous Hatton Garden jewellery district is the centre of an extensive street crime racket. Muggers and gangsters from all over Britain are using some of its exclusive shops to pass on their ill-gotten gains - many of which have been stolen to order. In just one afternoon, the Sunday Mirror discovered three jewellery dealers who knowingly take expensive stolen goods. And two of them made it obvious they furnish muggers and thieves with high-class “shopping lists”.
SHOPPINGConvenience goods are goods that consumers purchase frequently, immediately, and with minimal effort. People do not spend a large amount of time shopping for convenience items. They are usually purchases made routinely, such as buying groceries on a weekly basis, or habitually, such as purchasing a daily newspaper. Convenience products include common staples, such as milk and bread. Some convenience goods, however, are not purchased routinely or habitually. They are bought on impulse, such as an ice cream cone on a summer day. Many impulse items are displayed in a manner that encourages quick choice and purchase, such as the candy, magazines, and batteries that are routinely placed near the cash register at checkout counters. Other convenience products may be purchased as emergency items, when the consumers feel there is an urgent need, such as buying candles, water, or canned goods when preparing for a storm. Convenience products can be found in stores such as supermarkets, convenience stores, and department stores.
NEW STORE Technically its not a new store, but its the first Super Target in town and thats good enough for us. (Weve always thought Target was pretty super!) Our shopping lists have never looked so cool: milk and Michael Graves, spaghetti and Swell, cottage cheese and Cherokee. 3810 Bloomington St. (just off Powers Boulevard).

Increasing concerns over homeland security issues have put ever-higher levels of pressure on state governments that are often too beleaguered and too cash-strapped to have any hope of keeping up with security suggestions and initiatives from the feds. “New Hampshire is unique compared to a lot of states. There is a lot of security and high-tech expertise, particularly in Nashua, Manchester and Portsmouth,” Steinberg notes. “In addition, were a small state where people and companies are closely connected. Its the small boat versus the ocean liner theory. Were small enough to move quickly and take on a wide range of security issues, from power systems to healthcare records, throughout the state. We could become one of the examples that other, larger states look to when they are doing their own security initiatives.” Steinberg knew it would take an organized group effort to address the security needs of the state, as well as the help and backing of a major organization, as technology security and cybersecurity werent his only concerns. An effort to improve statewide security and meet homeland security needs will require coordination of security guard providers and perimeter fence manufacturers, too, among many others, he stresses.
SECURITY: VOIP is growing so fast that its reportedly leaving network security issues in the dust. A number of computer security experts told NewScientist.com last month that VoIP phones could be vulnerable to a number of familiar-sounding Net threats, from viruses and denial of service attacks to toll fraud, ID spoofing and even eavesdropping. But Vonage CTO Louis Mamakos insists that an attack on a VoIP phone would take an extraordinary amount of determination. For example, he told New Scientist, for VOMIT to work the eavesdropper would have to filter off all other traffic going through the Net and focus in on one call. None of this is impossible, he says. But its much easier to demonstrate these vuinerabilities in the tab.
Piano Lessons
August 11th, 2008
NOTE BY NOTE: A CELEBRATION OF THE PIANO LESSON, by Tricia Tunstall, Simon and Schuster, 214 pages, $24 Tricia Tunstall, an experienced piano teacher and accomplished musician, has hit on a subject almost as universal as a childs softball games. Speaking of a piano lesson, she writes, “In the course of a modern American childhood, there are very few occasions when a child spends an extended period alone with an unrelated adult.”
While I have long understood the limitations of beginning method books and liberally supplemented them with my own activities–creating systematic technical exercises, creative activities and ear-training methods–I mistakenly thought by simply using a method book, students would learn to read music. Unfortunately, method or concept books lull an unsuspecting teacher into thinking the books are teaching note reading. They dont. Or at least not directly. True enough, there are notes on the page, but as I watched my little ones stumble and fall as they struggled to decipher the mess .of dots and lines in front of them, I was humbled into recognizing I could no longer afford to ignore the problem: These students were not learning to read music. Many popular beginning method books emphasize intervallic reading; that is, reading the intervals between notes rather than the individual notes themselves. This approach is an effective reading method because it teaches students to read patterns and groups of notes rather than getting caught up in deciphering each mark on the page. This approach also provides the potential for students to transpose easily, simply by starting on a different pitch. Furthermore, intervallic reading lends itself to efficient sight reading, where one must read in patterns and groups and not get caught up in details. Pianists, however, cannot just innocently read patterns of notes forever. As helpful as intervallic reading is, a good musician has to be able to read any given pitch quickly and accurately.
Celebrate Piano! Lesson and Musicianship 2B is the fourth of six books in this series encompassing the first years of study. The book is designed to prepare very young students for the study of classical literature. A strong point of Lessons and Musicianship 2B deals with musical form. In four of the six units, the student is given effective introduction to parallel and contrasting answers, ostinato, D.C. al Fine, introduction and coda. Three presentations dealing with phrases include composition exercises asking the student to complete a given answer to the opening phrase. If this is part of an overall plan of the course, it would certainly encourage ongoing improvising and composing on the students part–a most welcome prospect. It should be noted, however, that these elements of form are presented as facts without describing what each element adds to a composition and its performance. This book will be welcomed reading material for those who use any course of study. Its emphasis on pieces that include the five Cs and the resulting leger lines is not easy to find. Furthermore, the print quality is excellent, and those who emphasize multi-key approach will find that represented as wel1.

The enduring love affair with the aviators best friend As the war clouds of WW I loomed on the horizon, aviators did not have special flight clothing and typically flew with whatever uniform was prescribed as the uniform of the day. Throughout the worlds air forces, this widespread practice dates back to the origins of flight when Orville and Wilbur Wright flew their Flyer in their suits; WW I aviators flew in their service dress jackets with “choker”-style collars. It was no wonder that silk scarves were introduced to protect necks from chafing. The common day suit of the time sufficed for the early flights of limited duration, speed and altitude. As speeds increased and aircraft pushed ever higher for longer flights, aviating became progressively more inhospitable owing to wind blast and the cold temperatures at altitude. Aviators turned to the only available sources of robust protective clothing: sports equipment suppliers and “outfitters,” whose tailors had produced specialized clothing for years for use by expeditions venturing into the Arctic cold and the high altitudes of unconquered summits. One of these firms, Willis and Geiger, is credited with developing the G-1 design for the Navy. It is still in existence. Auto racing, which had a slight lead on aviation, and the fledgling game of football, had encouraged sports suppliers into the development of protective helmets that aviators adapted for their use. Aviators still had to improvise until aviation became widely accepted. At that time, leather-the universal choice for protective clothing for auto and motorcycle racing-was ideal for aviation use, as it provided a barner against the cold air and provided an outer shell so the inner garments could retain body heat.

The initiative sent prices of leather jackets in the Afghan capitals markets tumbling from 1.6 million Afghanis (pounds 23) to 1.2 million Afghanis. A despondent Afghan in Kabul lamented: “They will be ordering us to throw away our shoes next.” Leather jackets are perceived as a powerful symbol of Westernisation. Perhaps the young Taliban, whose notion of chic consists of layers of flowing cotton, simply felt intimidated by the citys youth, and took steps to put it right.

Pillsbury Nut Toppers Ready-To-Spread Frostings. Vanilla Almond, and Chocolate Walnut. $1.69 per 15.6-ounce canister. Bonnie: These two new frostings are the first to feature nutritious nuts, in lieu of candy, in their dome lids. The candied sprinkles added more sugar and were sort of the “icing” on the frosting. Nuts, on the other hand, are not only flavorful but packed full of nutrition, carrying a lot of nutrients in relation to calories. (Dietitians call that nutrient-dense.) Carolyn: These nuts packaged with these frostings could work as a cake decoration for a not-too-festive occasion. But dont count on them to stand in for nuts you might, say, add to a brownie mix. These wont be enough.
In todays increasingly high-paced, high-tech world, many business owners believe the formula for business success stems solely from the ability to increase production efforts and boost the proverbial bottom line. Others, however, choose a somewhat different approach. Owner Lucas Amodio says his laser engraving business lends itself to a diverse assortment of products, including custom ornaments, plaques, refrigerator magnets, engraved metal crosses, personalized wine glass tags, coasters, toasting flutes, cake toppers, board game pieces and more. Wood, metal, glass, stone, acrylic and leather are good platforms for a large number of the pieces that Amodio and his design team create on a regular basis. “If you cant come up with something new, we can,” he says. Amodio says many people are intrigued by the idea of creating something that is truly unique. “Custom products seem to be in high demand among areas residents,” he says, “and Dragonfire Laser Crafts can satisfy the desire to create personalized pieces that truly reflect the individual tastes and design preferences of its customers. Were willing to try anything.”

When the previous statement on foreign exchange was discussed at the Accounting Practices Committee we were of the view that the statement should include a definition of the date of the transaction due to the confusion surrounding this concept. We consulted with our legal colleagues and were informed that, if an order was placed for goods or services, the date the order was accepted was the date of the transaction. We attempted to get this entrenched in the statement but failed at the APB level. After much confusion, it was generally agreed that the cost of the inventory in the above example would be R65O if no cover contract was entered into or if cover was taken but hedge accounting was not permitted. It was also generally agreed that if cover was taken and hedge accounting was permitted, the cost of the inventory would be R6oo (the spot rate at the date the deal was made) plus RS (being the cost of the premium attributable to the inventory, i.e. Ri5-Rio) or R6o5. Then along came AC 133 with its embedded derivative in a host supply contract concept. It stated that if the deal was done in a currency that was not the currency of one of the parties to the transaction and the product subject to the transaction was not routinely bought and sold in the currency in which the transaction was entered into, there was an embedded derivative in the contract that had to be separated from the host contract. In the above situation, the embedded derivative would have been a liability of R45 (R6,6o - R6,is). The only way that could understand this concept was to see the embedded derivative liability as an expression of sadness that the deal was entered into in dollars and not in Rand. If the Rand went the other way, it would have been an asset, i.e. an expression of happiness. (A banker once asked me jokingly if he could lend money to a company based on the value of its embedded derivatives in its supply contracts!)

In an era of advanced technology, U.S. troops may find that four-legged transportation works better than their modern-day Humvees in the deserts of Afghanistan. Like the Civil War soldiers who fought before them, todays Army understands that a horse and rider can be a formidable fighting machine. A new documentary film entitled Horses of Gettysburg takes an in-depth look at this partnership. The film is narrated by Ronald F. Maxwell, director of Gettysburg and Gods and Generals, and captures the unique bond between soldiers and their horses in the Civil War. Currently available for preorder, the 2-DVD box set will be released on May 2, 2006. The box set contains the 116-minute Directors Cut from the high-definition master with more than 3 hours of additional DVD features that celebrate the forgotten heroes of the Civil War and their critical role in shaping the United States of America that we live in today. Included in the Special Features are interviews with Ronald F. Maxwell, notable Hollywood horse wrangler Doug Sloan and Gettysburg National Military Park Ranger and Civil War author Eric Campbell. When discussing the horses involvement in the Civil War, Campbell says, Horses made the Civil War possible.
There was chaos in the betting ring at Southwell yesterday after it was discovered that a wrong horse had run in the fifth race. Loch Style, due to run in a seven-furlong race at 3.15, contested a mile-and-a-half contest at 2.15, running in the name of stablemate Taniyar. One punter, Philip Marshall from Sutton-in-Ashfield, had more than a few quid on. He placed pounds 700 on the horse he thought was Taniyar. “This is an absolute disgrace. Hed have been 33-1 if wed known it was Loch Style,” Marshall said. Most bookmakers are treating “Taniyar” as a non-runner. The Southwell stewards have referred the matter to the Jockey Club.
greenville personal injury lawyer

Heres the scenario: An insurance company hires an outside lawyer to defend it against a potentially rain-making ambulance chaser.Heres the problem: The insurance company loses and owes some big money to the plaintiff. It used to be the insurance company would lick its wounds and move on. In more egregious cases, it might never again hire the lawyer or the firm.
THE timing was perfect. Englands batsmen were facing the West Indies fast bowlers, an occupation which involves a hard leather object whizzing towards the human body at 90mph. Cometh the adverts, cometh the lawyers. Got a personal injury claim? Call us free for advice. The marketing of lawyers and their wares is becoming increasingly widespread. Lawyers view the area of personal injury to be a rich, unmined seam: just one in four people who have a legitimate claim for personal injury actually go to court, according to the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. Furthermore, the introduction of no-win, no-fee for lawyers means you can take action without fear of facing a huge bill if you lose. Advertising and the legal profession have not always mixed so easily. Lawyers were only allowed to advertise on radio in 1984 and it is only since 1987 that they have been permitted to sell themselves on television. One company to promote itself on television is Nelsons Solicitors, based in Nottingham. They used their own clients to give anecdotal accounts of the firms work in personal injury, fraud, criminal law, wills, financial services and divorces. “Because of the extremely sensitive nature of divorce we used an actress to read a clients statement,” said marketing manager Christine Pudge. “We got a good return on some parts of the adverts. The trouble is you cant sell a legal firm like you can sell a bar of chocolate. People either need a lawyer or they dont. You cant make it irresistible.” Guidelines for lawyers who want to advertise are laid down by the Law Society. In what outsiders might view as a traditional piece of legalese, lawyers are allowed to advertise, but they cannot tout for business. “That means they can drop a leaflet through your door but they cant knock on your door or ring you up and try and sell you a product,” said Catherine Slater of the Law Society. “They must not do anything that brings the profession into disrepute or which is too tacky.” Legal firms are increasingly aggressive in the field of personal injury, according to Chris Fogarty, features editor of The Lawyer magazine. “One firm advertised their personal injury service on the back of hospital appointment cards,” he said. “The British are coy about going to court. But I saw one lawyer stand up last year at a meeting and say he was proud to be an ambulance chaser. Many see themselves as social crusaders.” However, Irwin Mitchell, a firm with offices in London, Birmingham, Leeds and Sheffield, decided not to broadcast a radio advert dealing with family law. “We produced a family law advert on divorce but the reaction was that it possibly crossed the line and we did not put in on air,” said marketing executive Stuart Peace. “We would never advocate advertising to the extent that is done in America. We must get the balance right. The key is not to be insensitive or in-your-face.” The firm has advertised on local radio in London, Sheffield and Leeds, with adverts ranging from 10 to 80 seconds. The longer messages included documentary-style accounts of a road accident victim and a mother whose child was hit by a car. In another broadcast, the comedian Alexei Sayle was hired to perform a tongue- in-cheek advert.

Oklahoma, Tulsa, Payne, Canadian, Cleveland, Comanche, Garfield and Rogers counties now are on the system. Eventually, all county court clerks are supposed to be on the system.
business computing Say you need to upgrade a half-dozen PCs in your office, or youd like to install a network connecting a new computer in your home to an existing one to share its cable modem and printer. You can do it yourself, listening to vendors who want to sell you their products or services, reading whatever you can find on the subject, and hunting down advice from those whove undertaken similar projects. Or you can ease your burden by hiring a computer consultant. Computer consultants typically specialize in one or more areas. Areas of specialization include specific categories of hardware and software; specific types of clients, such as medical or legal offices; general office automation; networking; and Web services. Most consultants target their services to businesses, but some work with home users.

As art jewelry comes into its own in America, galleries are clasping onto the trend and finding success with the art/jewelry mix. Throughout the world, body ornamentation is an ancient and time-honored art form. Yet in the United States, jewelry as art has only recently come into its own. The distinction between mass-produced jewelry and art jewelry is not just in the quantity but the design, said jewelry artist Gretchen Kubacky of Los Angeles. Ive seen some stunningly high-quality designs in a department store that wouldnt be considered fine art, and Ive seen $5,000 diamond earrings that have no design quality to them. Art is in the eye of the beholder.
Just as some animals will offer in courtship a morsel of food, the bowerbird and others make gifts of feathers and flowers and all manner of colorful trifles. There can be tittle doubt that the first tokens of human affection were of a simitar nature and were worn as treasured souvenirs. With the recognition of the intrinsic qualities of shelfs and stones, the evolution of jewely had begun. In the Middle Ages patronage was largely in the hands of the church, and a good proportion of medieval jewelry is of a devotional nature. Not until the second half of the fifteenth century was there an emphasis on the aphrodisian themes of antiquity. The refinement of Italian Renaissance jewelry was a result of the broadly based apprenticeship of artists, which required a mastery of drawing, engraving, chasing, casting, enameling, and niello work. Thus Donatello and Ghiberti became sculptors, Ghirlandaio and Andrea del Sarto became painters, and Pollaiuolo and Verrocchio worked in several mediums, returning to goldsmith work and jewelry at will. The fashion for decorative emblems and badges was taken up with enthusiasm in the courts of Europe during the Renaissance. Both devotional and amorous allusions are common in these decorative devices, which closely echo contemporary jewel work. One of the most charming designs for an emblem shows Cupid rashly pursuing the sweetness of the honeycomb only to be stung by the bees who have made it (Pl. XIII), a poignant allegory of the pleasure and pain of love. The Netherlandish hat badge in Plate IX is an emblem depicting a woman choosing between two suitors surrounded by a motto that can be translated “love is something but money is everything.”
